LOS ANGELES (AP) — The reeking carcass of a dead humpback whale was towed back out to sea some 24 hours after washing up at a popular Los Angeles County beach Friday.
Authorities used boats pulling ropes attached to the tail to pull it off the sand during the evening high tide, taking the whale far out to sea and avoiding a foul stench and grim scene on the beach as Fourth of July weekend crowds began arriving.
Authorities had earlier attempted the procedure at midday, with a bulldozer pushing, but it was unsuccessful because of the low tide.
The huge whale washed onto Dockweiler Beach, a long stretch of sand near the west end of Los Angeles International Airport, just before 8 p.m. Thursday and holiday beachgoers began arriving in the morning.
Lifeguards posted yellow caution tape to keep people away and biologists took samples to determine what caused the death of the humpback, an endangered species. Beachgoers watching from a distance covered their noses.
Tail markings were compared with a photo database and found that the same whale had been spotted three times previously off Southern California between June and August of last year by whale watchers who gave it the nickname Wally, said Alisa Schulman-Janiger, a whale research associate with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
At the time of the prior sightings the humpback was covered with whale lice, which usually means a whale is in poor physical condition, but it was also actively feeding and breaching.... The whale was about 46 feet long and at least 15 years old... for more on this you can visit: https://www.yahoo.com/news/dead-whale-stuck-los-angeles-beach-ahead-holiday-195706480.html#copied from @ https://www.yahoo.com/news/dead-whale-stuck-los-angeles-beach-ahead-holiday-195706480.html

How much are we earning from the importation of Cattle into Nigeria? Importation of Cattle into Nigeria has completely wiped out local production in Beef(cow meat), Pork(pig meat), Mutton(sheep's meat) and Chevon(goat meat). Most Cattle in Nigeria are imported from Niger, Chad and Cameroon and these people simply move it across the border and then down south of Nigeria. Today, they no longer import only Cattle, they equally import Cattle rearing Expatriates from neighbouring countries, a very violent set of people who behave as if they are still in their jungles where no law and order exists. The resultant effect of their presence in our country is Cattle rustling, killing, raping, maiming, murder, destruction etc. well, that is not the interest of this write up for now. Has it not gotten to the point where the importation of cattle into Nigeria would be out rightly banned to encourage local production? or atleast import duties are imposed on them. Imagine how much Nigeria
So in this age and time of SKYPE and other VIDEO CALL technologies, the presidency must have to fly out Governors to London just to confirm to Nigerians that Mr President is not dead, ooh! what a pity even when all the poorest television stations in the world is hosting their programs with these video calling technologies, video clips recorded on smart phones etc the worst part is that at the end of the day, they will all come back with one single photo shot to display to all Nigerians as evidence that the President is recuperating fast. They all have smart phones why don't they show us their own personally selfies with the President or that a crime now or is it also a crime for some of them to record the meeting on the phones and post on their social media accounts. Do we really need to spend all that money just to prove that? Mr President can comfortably address this country even from his sick bed in London on NTA using SKYPE, are we this daft. Is it that we are all mor
